I rent a property. The landlord used a tenant finder through an estate agent but I pay rent to the owner direct. I have received hand delivered letter addressed to them with my car regustration on the outside and neighbours say visitors were bailiffs. What do I do? I have messaged landlord asking for address but no response. Should I open the letter. Can I?
Alternatively open the letter anyway. (You can always write 'opened in error' on the envelope; I've done that several times when mail for neighbours has dropped through my letterbox and I've not noticed their address on it before opening it - or you could write 'Opened to find return address' instead).
Totally agree with these answers. The bailiffs could have come to the house looking for the owner and assumed that the car is his. You need to get it resolve before they return so I would open the letter and forward it on to the owner ASAP for him to sort out.
