Friday 8th I am attending a court hearing to see who gets custody of my two grandchildren age 3 and 18 months. My son and his ex partner have been told the children will not return to ether of their care, as neither have the parental abilities needed. The social workers have concluded that my husband and I are the best option. The mother of the children is contesting this, saying that I am “mentally unstable”. My doctors report says I am stable mentally. What could happen as a result of her contesting?

Only the court can decide. But from what you say it is VERY ,VERY unlikely the court will go against the Social workers descision !

Update. The girls are in my care and their parents see them once a month. Their mother didn’t contest on the final hearing, but even if she had we would still have gotten custody. The girls are happy and settled with us as you can see from my new profile picture on here.
