Friday 8th I am attending a court hearing to see who gets custody of my two grandchildren age 3 and 18 months. My son and his ex partner have been told the children will not return to ether of their care, as neither have the parental abilities needed. The social workers have concluded that my husband and I are the best option. The mother of the children is contesting this, saying that I am “mentally unstable”. My doctors report says I am stable mentally. What could happen as a result of her contesting?

Only the court can decide. But from what you say it is VERY ,VERY unlikely the court will go against the Social workers descision !

If doctors report says you are mentally stable, then hopefully they court will award you custody. All the best.

The court is bound by th Children Act 1989
the interests of the children are paramount

go in there and say you are not
and try not to say to the judge - she is a damned liar !

Ok the latest update. My son’s ex’s solicitor advised her to retract her statement after informing her she doesn’t really have much chance of winning, but she couldn’t really let go, so we now have another court hearing on March 5th. I’ve been informed I’ve got 99% chance of getting custody of the girls, so the social workers advisedme to start getting prepared for my new arrivals. Thanks to all for your advice. Will update you all after March 5th.
What a worry for you. I wish you all the best. Good luck.
Sounds like your son's ex is just clutching at straws, can't help but think it will be a similar outcome.
Are the girls being fostered at the moment?
Thank you for the update. Not too long for you to wait.
Question Author
@tilly2 yes the girls are currently in foster care, and have been for last 6 months.
Oh Chelsea best place for them, are you able to visit them?
^^^
Apart from in your care
Sure that will come soon
Keep going Chelseagirl, the court will almost doubtless find in your favour, and they're little, they resettle remarkably quickly at that age, so a long and happy childhood ahead of them with you. Got my fingers crossed for you x
