I take it the piece of garden you want comes up to your window which will eventually become a patio door? If so you could first of all put a few pieces of hedging around the piece of ground you want to become yours. A few pots as well and see if anybody says anything. what did they actually say? If they are your landlord, then you need their permission...if they are saying they can't help you then did they mean "no"?
@mark...... the communal area is locked, so no one uses it apart from when they cut the grass and as already mentioned, a tenant has already made a rear garden and fenced it off.
Even in totally privately owned homes, communal gardens are meant to remain just that. I think your neighbour might be breaking some rule and you would be if you did the same.
Hmmm, this is strange. A communal area is locked so the tenants who are entitled to can’t use it. Unfair to you all.
