Abandoned Cars

There are two cars parked in a public neighbourhood parking area which have not moved for months. Checked on DVLA website and they are taxed until March. However they are taking up two valuable parking spaces. Is it worth reporting them to Council and if so what can they do.

However just because a car hasn't moved for months, it's not necessarily abandoned. The owner might, for example, be in a care home, working abroad or serving a prison sentence.

There's a car under a tarpaulin in the communal parking area just a few yards from my house. It's not abandoned because the tarpaulin will be replaced by someone if it gets tatty or blown out of position by the wind. However the car hasn't moved since I came to live here 28 years ago (when the state of the tarpaulin that covered it at that time suggested that it had already been there for a decade or so).

this just in - parked cars take up parking spaces meant for parking cars.
as far as i can see you are moaning about the spaces being used for what theyre meant to be used for. you havent got a hope making anyone else interested

I suggest that you make a note on your calendar to double check, maybe in mid March, to see if tax has been renewed and if not release all your pent-up anger in a sternly worded email to the council asking them EXACTLY what they intend to do about the matter.

This will have the double benefit of ensuring the law is adhered to and reinforcing your sense of self worth as a citizen enforcer.
There may even be a badge available.

You can probably get the council to offend the owners by sticking notices pretending the valuable vehicle is abandoned, on the car windscreen. If a past experience of mine is anything to go by not only are they happy to be insulting citizens that way, if you moan at them they not only refuse to come and take the stickers they put on, off, if the owner removes them the council may even find it hilarious to add them again. Such jolly japes treating decent citizens like that. I doubt that the council employees trousers ever dries.

I reckon if they're taxed until March and the police don't have them down as stolen, they should be left until April.
