My father in law made a bank transfer to a company, using his agreement number as the reference (which they said he should do in an email). Double checked all the bank details before he sent it and all correct. Company are now saying they can’t see the payment and it hasn’t been allocated to his account. He’s gone back in the meantime to say it’s definitely been sent and attached photos of the confirmation (from his bank) that it was sent.

If they come back again still saying they can’t find it/see it, what should he do next? He followed their instructions to the letter so can’t see he’s done anything wrong on his side.

Has he checked the account number and sort code with the company rather than with whats on the email (could be fraudulent email).
Has money gone out of his bank account yet?
How long ago- can take a few days sometimes
This happened to me. Ask the bank to put a trace on it. Did he owe the company or was it a scam
This has happened to me with BT.
I gave them the bank details of the transaction and added that the should do whatever they thought appropriate given the evidence and 18 months on I have never had any further communication.

Yes it was a payment he owed and yes, I went on their website to check the bank account details. Hopefully they’ll accept the proof that we sent to them.
