I'm trying to transfer my account from an old phone to another phone.

However it's not working  because the old phone is not doing what its supposed to do .

Does this mean I will have to deactivate the account on the old phone and start a fresh account on the new phone ?

I suspect more detail is required.

Can't say I've ever had a problem myself. As far as I know WA goes by the telephine number assigned to the SIM, so a new phone just picks up with the WA account automatically.

I dont hink you can have two phones with the same whatsapp running.

You can install it on a pc as well though.

Have you transferred your old phone number to the new phone? I agree with others, you can only have one Whatsapp account aasociated with one phone number not two. I have it on my phone, tablet and laptop but all attached to the same mobile number.

It's my daughter who is attempting to do the transfer - she's more tech savvy than me.

She says a message comes up on the old phone saying to the effect that  it can't do it - she says it's because it's an old phone and not all the gubbings are working .

I've transferred the SIM to the 'new' phone , but we have not tried to open a new account yet .

We did not want to try to  open a new account on the new phone in case we lost the  account ( it still works on the old phone , even without the SIM card in it )

If I open a new account on new phone , will the account on the old phone remain on the old phone ,but just that no new posts will go on but you will be able to view previous posts ?

A month ago I got a new phone . On my old phone I backed up  my WhatsApp account then transferred my SIM into my new phone.  Then I downloaded the WhatsApp app again and set it back up.  Everything automatically transferred over to the new phone .  Hope this helps.
