If I was to hold a charity cake sale, what food hygiene legislation would I have to follow? Would it be best to try and get an business (eg cafe / shop) to host the event?

A food buisness would not be very happy to host this as you would be taking buisness away from them. Could you possibly tie in with a local church event or farmers market.
This site gives good, sensible advice, for people just like you.
