Please please please good people can you help!! Going thru foul divorce and thought all was agreed, now she has come up with Spousal maintenance demand!! Common in England where she is but practically unheard of in Wales. Means I will never be able to provide for the kids mid to long term while she has her hooks into me for the rest of my ( or her) life and even after I shed this veil of tears. Told her there simply is no more money (true) but wont listen. Whats her chances of success? Anyone with experience of this please Ta.

I would say go and see a solicitor. I am going thu same thing and although she earns more than me the courts like to offer a maintenance for the wife. My solicitor told me not to be too alrmed as it could be as little as 50pence per year. Silly I know. It is down to the courts to agree a figure so see a solicitor asap.

Hope this is correct and helps, it is what mine told me.
Good luck

thanks123. Been to see my lot and thought you may be interested. said that although it is only set at a nominal 1.oo per year she can apply to have it upped at any time and that even if I get married or come into an inheritance and then die she can make a claim on the estate!! The courts decide on the basis of her need v my ability to pay. Well as it is likely I wont have a pot to **** in or a window to throw it out of for the forseeable future I have decided to sign if only to get this done. Hope that helps. Thanks
