We had a survey done on our house in February 2005. We sent a cheque to pay for this and the branch office have a record of receiving this cheque. However, the cheque failed to reach their accounts office (which is at a different location). According to our bank records, the cheque has not been cashed. We have just received an invoice for the survey, 21 months late. Do we have to pay it?

Yes you do - the survey was done and you have to pay. It is unfortunate that it has taken them so long to realise they lost your cheque but you do still owe them the money.
