my grandaughter has gone online to change her name by deed poll is this legal or has it to go to the courts

Is it legal. You don't even need to change your name by deed poll - just use a name and inform everyone that is how you are to be known henceforth.

A deed poll just smooths the way.

thanks but she is having difficulty with her bank account they say the paper she has is not stamped legally. she has has it witnesses etc...any suggestions
If i were your granddaughter i would just go with one of the main Deed Poll issuing organisations like http://www.deedpollservice.com. It will only cost her about �25 and it is guaranteed to be accepted by all government departments, companies, etc in the UK.

I know from past experience that these DIY Deed Polls are not always accepted.
