Would the length of time you have been married have any bearing on the percentage of the split ie house etc. Someone told me they take into consideration the amount of years your husband still has to work to keep himself in the life he is used to. Also if the wife has been looking after home and just working part time and has reached an age where it is not so easy to find work that pays well. Or is it a 50-50 split?

lot's of factors are taken into account. It's unlikely to be a 50 - 50 split in most cases. For example imagine acuple marry and the man at the time owns his own home. After 2 years they divorce, is it fair that he has to give up half the house?
Yes it makes a difference and as previously said it is not always a 50/50 split. Each of the party's needs will be assessed including future housing, earning power and the length of the marriage. It makes no difference these days if the wife has not worked or paid the mortgage. The pension can also be split 60/40 or whatever is decided.
