I've served nearly 2 years of a 3 year driving ban & have been told that I can apeal to the magistrates to return it early.
Does anyone have any experience of how this works?

You should state your full name & address and the date which you were disqualified. You will then be told in writing of the date which your application will be considered by the court. The police are entitiled to object to such an application; if your application is refused by the court you could be ordered to pay costs.
This is the DVLA response

Be advised that the courts will require a good reason to return your licence.
e.g To enable you to get or continue a job, in which case they would require proof from an employer that the job offer is real

Thanks Gina for your understanding of fellow human beings! Yes , I was banned for a good reason, but as has been pointed out, I've been a good boy! {hope you never loose yours, then you would have to become realistic, try living somewhere where there is no public transport for instance}
P.S. For anyone else interested, the reason I got banned was for doing 138mph, at 3 am on a deserted motorway{well, apart from the cop car, & the driver actualy admitted to me that he had enjoyed the chase!!!}
(o.k., the main reason they stopped me was 'cos I wasn't wearing a crash helmet, but I didn't know you needed one in a milk float!){JOKE!!!}
Thanks for all the other responses though, they've given me food for thought!

You will have to show the bench very good reasons why you should get your licence back you don't get "time off" for being good when you get a ban though if drink driver you can attend a course that will reduce the length of ban. I dont think that you will get your licence back yet, maybe with only a few months of the ban left you will stand a better chance. Magistrates are usually no pushover in these circumstances and offers of jobs usually cut no ice.
so you think that because it was three in the morning and the road was deserted that makes it ok. you lost your licence and shouldnt have it back until time is up. nothing to do with understanding of my fellow human being, i take it from your"ive been a good boy" since that you never exceed the sped limit in your life??
you should have thought about the terrible public transport before you did almost DOUBLE the speed limit then!!
oh does poor little you have to get the bus now, eh?
your arrogance to get indignant with gina because she asked why you think you deserve it back (which we were all thinking) in unbelievable!
you then make stupid jokes - which is indicative of how you view your idiotic crime - as a joke
you then say you were actually chased!!
not only speeding but a police chase! -
then you have the nerve to almost try to say it was ok because the cop liked the chase!!!
you do not deserve your licence back EVER, for the simple reason that you will do it again, of that i have no doubt, because for some strange reason you don't seem to think you have done anything wrong, and are only pished off because you got caught!
