Prison Sentence
My sister's boyfriend, Jamie, has just been sentenced to prison for 9 months for GBH. It's such a shame as he is such a moral citizen with a good job and they have a lovely life together. It was all because of a fight Jamie and this other man had over Jamies cousin, who the man was seeing. He was beating her up regulary and Jamie lashed out one day and hit him leaving him unconscience on the floor. Because this girl didn't give evidence in court Jamie was sentenced today for 9 months and my sister is totally devasted. To be honest the judge didn't appear to like Jamie one bit and was extremely bias to the jury. Does anyone know how long he will serve? Or any other advice? Many Thanks

If so, i think for average sentances he got away quite lightly. Sorry that this is happening to your family, but i suppose if the boot was on the other foot (no pun intended) and she was prosecuting the boyfriend for knocking her unconscious you would probably rather hope he got what he deserved?
I suppose you cant really say that beating someone up is unacceptable, and right that wrong by beating someone up for it! Its also a bit of worry that someone you know well can just "lash out" unexpectedly
i Know none of the above is helpful to you because you are devastated at the moment, but i think it would b helpful if you were to think of it as rather than the judge was biased, that he let him off lightly

No it was not with intent, he was drinking so was the other boy, and Jamie was told by his cousin that this boy had been beating her up, so he just lashed out. He has never in his life been in a fight and is the most placid person you could meet, with a wonderful job and life. Yet the other man he hit has since beat his cousin up another 5 times and knocked down her door...nice bloke!!
