Clearly, the ideal is not to have any debts in the first place, so Norman's answer is really a no-brainer.
I concur with Loosehead in that creditors would not necessarily know you had the means to repay outstanding debts but if they are still seeking settlement, they'll only send the bailiffs round to take items away etc which of course would be avoided by settling direct with cash.
As for honour, as you write in your reply, my question was not related to ethics of having outstanding debts and choosing not to repay but for what it's worth, I agree.

A CCJ does not give any 'rights'; as to receiving money. As an example there are plenty of people who still have outstanding CCJs and still go out and purchase cars, houses etc.
Once a person or company obtains a CCJ they can then elect to instruct bailiffs but depending on the amount it is often not worth it.
A lot of people who obtain CCJs do it on principle and not to actually get any money.
Others will go further and try to obtain "attachment of earning orders" or even "charging orders"(over property).
