Is there a law that dictates that after you pass your driving test you have to have a car and be on the road driving wihtin a certain amount of time or your driving license will become invalid?

There are many many thousands of people who have never owned a car since passing their driving tests - think of married people who only ever drive the car that is registered to the partner for example.

You do not have to drive or own a car to keep your licence valid.

No but don't forget that you must send off for your licence when you pass your test, if you don't within a certain amount of time it becomes invalid I think, but like Ethel says you don't have to own a car and be driving for your licence to remain valid once you have it :o)

Ahh yes just found it, it becomes invalid after 2 years and then you have to start all over again.

I know it's not quite what you were asking but thought it could have been what you were thinking or what someone else may have said and getting the 2 mixed up.

Anyway, always useful to know and be aware of this kind of thing :o)
