trees bounding my property.

my home is now to the south west boundary screened by very tall trees ie sycamores, conifers etc upto 50 ft high.
obviously these were there when we bought the house some 22 years ago but now block out some light and are overwhelming and on dull days depressing.
what or where is information available re what action i can take.
i have spoken to the owner who agrees they are very tall but thats it.
i recall a few years ago that legislation had been introduced but there must be many ifs and buts.

Yes, its part of the Anti-social behaviour Act 2003 - see here for the 'official' explanation from a Government site.

It requires you to get your local council to take the action. Probably best to read the stuff, print the useful bits and have a 'nice but firm' conversation with the neighbour showing him the materials - to show you mean business. The height you may be able to get them trimmed to depends on the distance away, the orientation of the hedge in relation to south, and the width of the screen.
