we got stopped because our passenger side was off but they said as long as you have one side mirror and the rear veiw mirror then you are not breaking the law.
I believe you need the driver's side mirror but not the passenger side mirror.

If you don't have a driver's side mirror you will not be able to overtake anybody and any motorcyclist is in grave danger.

If you don't have a passenger side mirror then cyclists and parked cars are more in danger.

On the basis that motorcycle travel at a faster speed than cyclists or stationary vehicles, it is obvious which is in more danger
Annoying when this happens. It has happened to me twice and I've had to go around all the brokers yard to try and get a wing mirror.
My car is silver and my wing mirror is red!!
The requirement is for EITHER one internal rear view mirror OR one external to the offside. So you are not committing an offence.

However in the interests of safety it would best to replace it when you can.
paul is incorrect - cars must have an offside (driver's side) Mirror AND either a near side (passenger side) OR an internal mirror. Hence Vans must have both wing mirrors.

Therefore, if you are driving at the moment, you are illegal.
legal wise as long as you have your rear view plus one wing mirror you are able to drive the car on a public road.
The law state you must have at least two mirrors and one must be the rear view.
I understand that the law is slightly different for a van as long as it was supplied new without a rear view
