unpaid fine

I was found guilty of breach of the peace last june and i received a fine of �150. I however did not keep up the payments on this, as i was in financial difficulty. I received a letter around august looking for full payment, but i could not afford it. I haven't heard anything since. Can anyone tell me what will happen when they get round to catching up with me? I'm not going to end up serving prison time, am I?

Icebox, I'm not in a position to advise on what may or may not happen to you, but catch up with you they will - in due course - particularly if you commit another offence. This'd also probably go on any job record, as sometimes you have to disclose this information, and it could stop you from getting a mortgage, a loan, credit, etc.
You could ignore what you've done, but it'd be best to reply to the letter, even now, and explain why you haven't paid. if you offered a token sum each week or month, they'd probably accept it.

No you will not go to prison but you will be asked to pay up and may have to pay extra for the delay.
It would be in your best interest to get in touch with them before they do you, and offer to pay them �5 a week if you can afford it?

You will eventually be summoned to an enforcement court where you will be asked to explain why you haven't paid your fine they do have the power to send you to prison but that is a last resort. I assume that you have a collection order on you for the fine but hopefully you will be given a second chance. My advice would be go to the court now, see a fines officer and make arrangements to pay

UNPAID / LATE PAYMENT FOR MAGISTRATE FINES/compensation payments , are not recorded in the same way as C C J , which are county court originated, they are detailed in MAGISTRATES FINE REGISTER , and generally ,thru data protection , many types of emoloyers are not able to access this , without your permission, but where CRB type checks are involved certain types of employers can access this type of info.... for example someone applying to work as a Prison OFFICER , would be checked to out to see , if he/she , had any outstanding Magistrates fine (s) , that had nor been adhered to , - dependent on what checks an employer are allowed to do - a grey area ..

the problem with an unpaid fine,,is that you could for example be "stop and searched " in the street , - and when the constabulary , check you out , there maybe " warrant for your arrest - by virtue of an unpaid fine (for a recorded non motoring offence ).... the term "NO BAIL WARRANT " , maybe run parralell with the "ARREST WARRANT" , which means , you have to pay the FULL AMOUNT , at time of arrest - pr you will be placed in custody , until ther first vailable COURT HEARING , at Magistrates can be arranged... this would normally be the neaxt "working day " .... take into account - magistates courts are not open on sundays/ or bank holidays , or even saturday.... this means if you dont pay the fine in full 0 u can be held in custody.... for more than 24 hours... thats what a NON BAIL WARRANT means..... it happened to me at 3am. on a SUNDAY morning, the amount was for more than �400 - i ghad to make a call , from custody to get some one to bring the outstanding amount ... then i was free to go ........ MONEY MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND ....... iwasnt DNA , or fingerprinted,,,,,,, that was the last of my worries anyway...... the the person who BAILED Me OUT,,,with the money loan.... got serpino ( requested ) to attend a a JURY MEMEBER , to a CROWN COURT CASE < about a year later,,,,,,, strange that happened to him, could the authorities seen him as a suitable CITIZEN , he got me out within three hours of the arrest...... - "WE ARE ALL BEING WATCHED " so a police officer said to me of the record ...once in the FINANCIAL DISTRICT of London......

Hi I have a question about law if someone has unpaid fines and has a warrant out for them but has been abroad for 2years and if they came back to the uk will they go to prison or just have a bigger fine to pay?
