i have a child with an ex girlfriend we split up and i met a girl with 4 children and got married, the csa came up with a figure to pay for my child which was fine i know we have to pay for our children.we were getting maintanance for my wifes children, but when the wifes childrens father died suddenly,it became a differnet matter as we could'nt afford the payments as i was bringing my wifes children up as my own from my income,i tried to explain this to to the csa and was told that was the advantage of having 2 parents (very comforting) but we are living on our nerves any help would be apprieciated....

My thoughts are that if it was a reasonable amount for the child efore, nothing has changed in your childs life - they still need housing and feeding etc, despite the fact your ability to pay has been compromised. all i can suggest is either your wife getting a job if she dosent already have one, or you adding in a part time job. TBH, i guess it would be the same for anyone who had 5 children!

bednobs know where your coming from but what i'm trying to say is one minute you are getting child support yourself the next your not, and nothing changes in payments apart from ours...i.e we don't get them and the other one is we have very young children.........so childcare is more than my mrs could earn...
we have looked into it i'm not just making my answers up....but in the first instance i was looking for a reply to the fact that i bring my wifes children up as my own but through no fault of their (or ours) are been made to pay cause their father has passed away ie we do not recieve maintainence for them but still have to pay the same amount out....sorry if this is confusing....
Tigger. The fact that you no longer have the kind of income that you had prior to your wife's former husband passing away makes a huge difference to your now income. It is different to what it once was. You need to let the CSA be aware of this and also Tax Credits. They will re-assess your claim and income based on the amount of CS you have to pay for your own children.

Whilst I appreciate that your money situation has beomce stretched to it's limit there are always ways to cut back on household expenditure so I would urge to look at that to begin with.
Your household is in receipt of 225.80 every 4 weeks of tax payers money - how much more do you want?
How often does your own child stay overnight with you? You may be entitled to TC based on him staying at your house a certain number of times per week.
Do you work 24 hours a day? Unlikely - can your wife not work when you are at home? Maybe a part time late evening job in a supermarket for example? Can she work just weekends? There are ways of working that will not require you paying for childcare, you just have to find them.

thanks for your answers but i try to work to support my family , my 16 year old step daughter has friends with children who have them just to recieve benefits from the state which amount to 120 per week whilst living at home with their parents so maybe we arn't all using the system to our benefit eh....we live and learn....
You actually just keep making excuses for your situation - your wife CAN work, you just have to find a way round things so she can.
If there is a 16 year old child in the house (who, unless she stays in further Ed, you will lose the child benefit for in Sept so furthering your money worries) who IMO is old enough to babysit any younger siblings there may
So, now it's the fault of young mums is it that the CSA say you are not entitled to any extra cash?
It may sound harsh but it's called life. Many 100's, actually 1000's, are in the same situation as you but they get on with it and find a way without blaming other social groups.
You can help yourself, you just need to try to

pink kittens...i work to provide for my family. i could if i was that way inclinined sit on my fat boney arse while the state paid for eveything, and believe you me i would be a damn site better off...but you don't know the ins and outs of my situation you just want to try and make me look like a sponger....when if i wanted to be i could but i have a bit more pride about myself....
You're right, I know nothing about your circumstances apart form what you have told us here, which is that you want to reduce your CSA payments so that your biological son has less money coming into his household. Can you explain how and why that would be fair to him and his mum?
There is a way out for you - your wife needs to work, it is that simple. With 2 adults in the house there is no reason they cannot both work.
But, if the cap fits . ......

the mother of my daughter does not work and also has a boyfriend that living with her that she has not declared.. my wife also has a child that is special needs and goes to school 8 miles away and as she is the only driver in my household it would be extremley awkward to get him to school and as for my 16 year old step daughter looking after the kids what about her life we do not have kids to dump them on the others....
Good Morning tiggerkian
You need to report your ex for that then don't you?
I see where you're coming from in asking your 16 yr old step daughter to babysit; it may not be fair but she could help if need be.
If she has a disabled son are you getting all the allowances you should be getting? DLA for example? You will need to check
However, this does not detract from the fact that she can go out to work, sorry
Anyway, enough here as TBH you are still making excuses for your situation which you can do something about if you tried hard enough
