I would suggest that had you just been caught after driving down a dual carriageway at high speed to get away from your angry neighbour having just sha99ed his dead dog that you ran over, it may well not be viewed in a good light.

It's not illegal to possess standard fireworks in the UK.
It is against the law to have them in a public place if you are under 18 though and to let them off in the street.
