My inlaws, who are in there mid seventies,have started claiming attendance allowance and disability allowance, this was done on there behalf they just signed the forms. Are these allowances affected by the level of savings they have ?..

its very unlikely they would be getting disability living allowance as that is for people under 64
Attendance allowance, is not affected by savings

cheers for that, need to do a bit more homework then, my wife has just started trying to help them with there finances and is trying to get things clear in her head. They hold blue badges , any other benefits they might be getting there appears to be another payment going into there bank account?..its just a lot of savings have come to light and she wants to make sure everything is 100% correct

just ring up the benefits enquiry line and ask them. Is there a word and number next to it in the bank statement? Would that give you any clues?

As Bednobs says there is usually something on the bank statement that would indicate of which benefit they are receiving.

AA is the usual abbreviation for Attendance Allowance and they will probably also get RP - Retirement Pension.

The Citizens Advice Bureau would give you all the information you need and also advise what else is available to help care for them.

If teh payments are from the DWP they will be getting pension and maybe some pension credit too 9which will depend on level of savings). And they could have a private pension.
