does anyone know where i stand legally if my husband stops paying the rent , the tenancy agreement is solely in his name , i have 2 children at home which arent his , i used to have a well paid job but he forced me to leave so consequently i have nothing , he is now threatening to stop paying the rent at the end of the month

yes, with the tennancy agreement, if you cannot pay it it will be terminated and you will have to leave. You will have to go to the council to look at getting re-housed
if i was you id go to whoever the rent is paid to and explain the situation and see if you can get your name on the tenancy, or if its not council go to them as well, as soon as possible
My sisters husband left her and she then found out that he had not paid the rent for months. She found all the bill reminders once he had gone. She went to the council and they just transfered the tenancy to her and chased him for the arrears. I am not sure if your landlord will do anything until your husband defaults.
If this is a private tenancy and your husband is still living there with you then you need to contact the local council about alternative housing for you and the children. This means you will in effect almost certainly have to leave your husband because the council will not have a duty to house him because - by simply refusing to pay the rent - he will have made himself intentionally homeless.

However, none of this will come about until the rent is at least 2 months in arrears because the landlord can't start the Court possession process until then.
