A customer of a company i work for have accused me in writing to my company of taking monies. in other words backhanders this is stated in a letter to my boss of which I have a copy .I am not at all worried by this as I have proof this is untrue.by accounts ect, can i sue this man.

Sounds like libel to me. They'd have to prove their claim. Presumably they'll say the money wasn't listed in the accounts - but it's up to them to show the allegation is true, not up to you to show it wasn't.
Libel is a tricky business. Has your reputation been lowered in the minds of the ordinary or right thinking man?. This is the test. Who else, apart from your employer has knowledge of this letter??? also,If your employers do not believe this allegation then you have not suffered.

Plus, if you do take an action, the costs will be phenomenal.

Bruce Grobbelar sued the sun for libel in the 80's or 90's over the match fixing allegations. He won his case... and was awarded �1.!!!
