I was recently asked not to smoke OUTSIDE of a restaurant. Were they in the right to insist on this?

Was it outside, but still on a piece of land owned by the restaurant? (rather than on part of the public highway including footpaths)
-- answer removed --
Have a poo on the pavement
Question Author
yes, the land was owned by the restaurant and yes i did want to pi55 and poo on their kitchen!! I went to a pub almost next door in the end and ate food and smoked outside there instead!!
Yes, as it is their property they can insist on it. They were perfectly within their rights.
i think smoking should b banned in all public places but thats just me.if it was part of their property then they have every right 2 insist.if someone was doing something on your property you didnt like tou would have every right to ask them not to.dont mean to sound opinionated just my thoughts
What kind of normal person would insist on NOT smoking outside a property though, or will it do harm to the air?
I have to walk through the foul stench outside the hospital doors every time I go to the hospital - it is quite disgusting even though it is outside.

Having a huddle of smokers outside can also give a poor image of an establishment, somehow, as well as leave an awful mess behind for somebody else to clean up.
Should have thought about that before the indoor ban was put in place, after all it's still a free country (almost)
my daughter is the only one of her friends that dosnt smoke she says when everyone goes outside for a smoke they allways assume she will look after bags and coats etc
Isn't that what non-smokers are for?
Yes Myriad - you can do whatever you like in your own home.

:)
justmetoo- at least, surrounded by bags and coats she doesn't look like a billy does she?

Why do non smokers complain about us smoking outside now? Can't win! We smoked inside, they whined and got it banned- now we're outside doing it, they still whine!
Very well put Boo x
like a moth to a flame ;0)
I think you will find we are only still moan when you do it within two feet of the front door. Move twenty feet away and you should be fine, however sixty feet is the recommended distance for pipe smokers.
My dad smoked a pipe, one of the last wonderful memories was of him refusing to put it out in a cinema, those were the days.
Bet the people at the restaurent own a car and drive everywhere. but people who drive pay road tax so they are allowed to poison you. Every night a car pulls up in front of my house at around midnight and a neighbour gets out.
After shouting goodnight to the other occupants he slams the car door shut. This happens everynight. Friday and Saturday are worse , drunks going past the house all night.
The sooner they bring back the old opening times the better.
Then we have the drink drivers

People on here are moaning about a bit of smoke. Get a life you muppets.

You're the one ranting, herculiscbr

And your point about the drivers paying road tax doesn't add up - smokers pay a LOT of tax on their cigarettes too. By your reasoning the government should be encouraging everyone to smoke.

Why don't you go and enjoy yourself in the pub?
and another blo0dy thing oooer i just spotted herculiscbrs
answer er erm
