How was she defrauded? There are thousands of different ways of defrauding a person, so it is impossible to say if she will get her money back without knowing the basic facts.

Question Author
They hacked her bank account and spent loads of money
As in 'went in through the bank's website' or as in 'extracted data off her PC which enabled them to know her passwords etc'

We're not sure how they did it but they somehow got her bank details and spent loads of money.
Sorry to say, Credit Cards are protect against fraud if they are registered with the Card Provider, and in that case the loss of money is covered if it's over 100.

Unfortunately, Bank Debit Cards, provide additional security passwords to prevent details being stolen on the Internet, but don't give the same level of cash return for stolen money.
You and your mum really should discuss this with her bank, to see what advice they can give.
My mum has recently had her bank acc hacked into and over 10,000 taken - there was no issue of the bank returning it to her and it was returned in less than 2 weeks. She had had no passwords etc changed to access her acc
She was even told the name of the person who did it - she didn't know him
Speak to your bank's fraud department and they will help you
Sorry, also meant to say I had just 30 stolen form my acc via the cash point machine and it was returned to me in less than 48 hours
(Same bank as my mum)
