I bought a tv/dvd combi from Argos on 7 September 08.
Around the 26 October the dvd part ceased to work.I took
unit back to Argos who said it would have to go away for
repair or replacement depending on fault.Thats fair enough. The manager produced a form i had to sign
stating that it was my fault that its not working.I refused but i was told if i didnt sign it would not be repaired.I was
between a rock and a hard place so i signed.Bearing in
mind its under 12 months warranty i thought it wrong to have to sign this form.I did not break it.Whatsmore i asked for a copy of the form but was refused.Underhanded practice i thought.Your thoughts please or advice.

If the unit stopped working less than a month after you bought it, then the shop would be obliged to replace the item or give you a refund. However, if there was evidence that it may have been subjected to accidental or deliberate damage, then i doubt you would get it replaced or repaired under warranty.
As for the form you signed, this is a mystery to me, why would you sign a document to say you were responsible for it not working if you wasn't.
You are entitled to receive a copy of any document you sign, or how do you know that it wasn't altered after you signed it.
If Argos refuse to replace, repair or refund on this item, I suggest you go to trading standards and tell them everything you've said on here.
I have alway found Argos very fair. I cannot understand what it was that you signed. Is this something new for them? Its understood that the warranty only covers manfacturing faults or any damage caused before delivery, not wear and tear. It may be that the document you signed stated that you will pay the repair charge if this is not the case. As stated above there is no reason why you cannot have a copy.

Thanks to both who replied. However the unit was returned
in the same condition, apart from dvd inop,as i picked it up
from Argos. It was a bedroom set and only used a few times.I had it for approx 49 days and was told by manager
that it would be repaired if poss but although i had to sign saying my fault it would not cost me anything.I buy goods there all the time and no problem like this before.I have
contacted trading standards and was told they would pay store a visit this week.emailed Argos got "im sorry to hear
you are having problems etc "but no reference to this form i had to sign and which i didnt get a copy of so i emailed them back.I realise i have to go down the usual repair, replace, refund route but this form is not on.
