CD-Wow are claiming I'm not entitled to a refund on a DVD they sent me which I no longer want.
Both the postal packaging and the DVD packaging are unopened.
If I had purchased the goods in a shop I would have got a refund no problem, but they are claiming that they only refund if the goods are faulty.

What is the consumer rights law on this please?

you have no right to a refund just because youve changed your mind and no longer want it.

some shops may choose to allow you a refund but its certainly not law and its entirely up to them

Damnation!!!
This is very odd. I assume you bought the dvd either online or by telephone.

If this is the case, Distance Selling Regs apply which state that goods can be returned for any reason or no reason for a full refund, provided the goods are unused and the seller is notified within 7 days of receipt.

This should also apply to companies outside the UK but within the EU, but not necessarily companies outside the EU.

I have looked at CDWow and suspect they are operating ouside the UK - there is no proper business address or VAT reg number.

If that is the case, your only option is to sell it on eBay to recoup some money - or give it as a gift

Thanks Ethel.
CD-Wow operate from Guernsey or Jersey- will that save me?
Are you sure of that?

Quote the DSR to them anyway, see what they say
It seems CDWow is owned by Stomp Hong Kong Ltd, based in Hong Kong.

I thought that was so as I remembered a report about this company selling very dodgy Hong Kong pressed cds and dvds - a sort of nearly pirate operation.

Play and Sendit operate from the Channel Isles.

Dealings are with CD-Wow UK who operate from somewhere in the UK.
The parent company are Hong Kong registered and the goods are despatched from the Channel Isles or Hong Kong.
Does that make things any easier?

Quote the DSR to them anyway - I am not convinced CDWow UK is in the UK, but rather just a website in English.

See how you get on.

Thankfully Jersey has its own distance selling laws very similar to the UK,
http://www.gov.je/EconomicDevelopment/PolicyRe gulation/TradingStandards/Business+Advice/Dist anceSellingLaw.htm, as does Guernsey
