Sentenced to 2 years how long......

What is the shortest time that could be served do you reckon? Not celebraties because they always get released early!!

It depends on whether they were held on remand before sentencing - I'd say 12 month in total

no, had bail since it happened so between it happening and sentencing 9 months on bail

Thats what I would have expected as well, but they've told him he might be out in July- September which would mean he would have served 6-9 months. Do they take into account circumstances at home? Ie mortgage, young baby and one on the way??

i shouldn't think so - surely that is the responsibility of the person who committed the crime to consider, not the person doing the sentancing. Sorry but I still think that 2 years should be 2 years. The sentancing system is just a mockery for the victims.

Yeah well if your 'victim' started the whole thing off, and you have been told to plead guilty to minimise the sentence, what would you do? Plead not guilty- which he was and risk getting up to 10 years, or minimise the risks so you wont be away from your family for too long. It isn't all black and white, victim and criminal. Sorry for the rant, its just all very raw at the minute

well i still think 2 years should be 2 years. Its you and those babies who I feel sorry for - you will be the one trying to make ends meet if it is your partner in jail. He will be very well cared for - fed, warm and watered. I know it is not always cut and dried. He could have been found not guilty if he had pleaded that and it could be proved. Again, sorry, but it is raw for us too as someone close to me lost her husband who was an officer on duty to manslaughter and that scumbag was sentanced to 13 years and is to be out after 6. Justify that! He was already out of prison on licence ( released early and told to behave) when he murdered our friend. Perhaps now you can see it from the other side.

I completely understand. I'd have been outraged at that sentence. I'm not being funny but I really believe that the real tough criminals get it easy. These people who beat up old grannies for their handbag and get community service or whatever, they should be locked up. Its ridiculous. Is there no way you could appeal his sentence and get him in for longer- surely he is a threat to society.
My parner has a full time job, pays his taxes, mortgage, baby and one on the way- what is the sense of locking him up and spending all our taxes on him. Whilst I dont know how Im going to make ends meet. Can you see it from my side as well though? He pleaded to guilty to minimise the risks of being away from his family for a long long time

my friend's husband was sentenced to 4 years and will probably serve 19 months.

if your partner has committed a crime he should be punished. he should have thought about the consequences for all involved before he did whatever he did. if he was not guilty his legal rep should have advised him better.

out of interest what has he been found guilty of?

Ended up being charged with section 18 which is ridiculously harsh. The 'victim' was an off duty plod who likes starting fights and getting the other person on trouble for it- he has done this with loads of people in the area. There was no way it was section 18, it was not premeditated no weapons were used. If it was an average joe bloggs it wouldnt have gone to court.
