i put a question on about the law on step dads sleeping in the same room as there stepdaughter what i meant is that we live in a 1 bed flat and just wanted to no the law with it there is me and my partner and my biological daughter and my step daughter if any 1 can help plz do so

there is no law.
sleep in the lounge and let the children have the bedroom

or buy a bigger flat / house.

only other option is to live seperately

For the purpose of determining whether your home is overcrowded, all the rooms are taken into consideration, so a one bed flat with a lounge is 2 rooms. Bathroom and kitchen are not counted.

Two rooms can accommodate 3 people.

Children under 1 are ignored and children between 1 and 10 count as half.

So your flat is currently housing 4, 3 ,2.5 or 2 people depending on the ages of the children.

If your flat is deemed to be overcrowded because both children are over 10 you can apply to the council to be rehoused, but you may have to wait a long time if nothing bigger is available.

Your council may allow 'private swaps' if you can find somebody in a bigger home who wants to move to a smaller one.

equally if this is a private rental housing arrangement you need to look at moving for the welbeing of yourself and your children as it is not healthy for children to share a room with parents as they get older. If your daughter innocently mentions at school her dad sleeps in her room the matter could be reported to social services. You could do without that situation in circumstances where your child may be safe. As a child protection worker iff I got that call we wouldnt accept that arrangement
