Childrens Rights
6 Answers
In relation to the recent news concerning the children being taken away from their Grandparents and put with a couple of gay men, is there not any legislation or something written in the Childrens Charter stipulating their right to have a mother & father over a father & father? I know which I would choose!

The council are not permitted to comment and for all we know there could be very real reasons why those children can't stay with the grandparents.
The public are quick to condemn social services when children are taken from the families, and when they aren't and something goes wrong.
I'd like to know all the facts before commenting on this.

there is usually a very valid reason chilrren are removed from home and it usually involves a lengthy process whereby parents/guardians are given opportunities to address their problems and co operatre with services. A gay couple may provide a very warm loving home to the children . The most important thing for children is the quality of care they receive. That is what determines how they grow and develop in to safe secure adults who experience the world positively. What use would a mother and father be who are unable to provide appropriatly for a child. Surely you could not advocate that over two people who would care for and raise a child safely.
The question referred to the recent case as an examlpe but did not ask for comment on it.
To answer your question, afraid I dont know, but I doubt it very much. R1 is correct, at the moment with so many right on trendy hand wringing liberal lefties in our town halls and Government posts (No surprise since they are recruited from the bog paper rag The Guardian) it is unlikely that childrens rights are above those of gays.
I have no problem with anyone doing what they want, behind closed doors and between consenting adults : straight, gay or otherwise. I do have an issue with it being paraded around and the silent majority subjected to these acts. I have a real problem where children are involved. They either cannot or are not able to consent therfore it simply should not happen. We should not experiment with kids END OF.
I would be interested to know if there are independant stats available to show how stable gay relationships are. I guess it may be a bit early to draw long term ideas as yet though.
