Likely Sentence

Hi

This scenario happened to me a couple of weeks ago:

Dawn Raid by Police and Trading Standards
Approx 30 items of counterfeit jewellery seized
Approx 150 items sold on ebay for between £25 and £30
Items if genuine retail for between £200 and £300 hence a "loss" to the industry of between £35000 and £50,000.00
Questioned at police station they are awaiting forensics from a laptop (nothing on it)

Never been in trouble before

Any idea of likely punishment?

Personally I have less sympathy with the purchasers than you all seem to have

If the quality is such that they can't tell the difference they are paying money for the snob appeal of a label - pure vanity

More likely they knew they were fake as well and are just as guilty - In France they have brought in laaws to punish buying counterfeit goods too

Because of the price

I've seen Patek Phillipe watches advertised on E-bay
"don't know if this is genuine I was left it - no reserve lets start the bidding at £100"

Right - you've been left a £10,00 watch so the first thing you do is put it up for auction with no reserve rather than take it to an expert!

People are vain and greedy - not saying Jimmy's in the right - I don't see much difference between this and illegal downloading of music and films which seems to enjoy much more support on here

Use the £ 4000, or so, you've received from your 'customers' to get yourself a good brief and ask him.............

Why would the discounted price tell you? I bought something from Boots that should be £50 for only £20 today. Doesn't mean it's a fake.

Depends on the prison Sara,I was reading a news report last night about a prison that has a Sky subscription (full sport and movies).

Boots are hardly likely to sell counterfeit goods another-view.
Using your common sense would tell you that an ebay seller selling this stuff is a fraudster. The high cost jewellery companies do not sell in bulk or at huge discount.Why would they?

I know this is drifting from the topic, but in defence of Jimmy- if people are fully aware that what they buy is not the geuine article, it's hardly the crime of the century is it?

sorry another view, but im of the opinion that if folk have the savvy to naviate the internet and Ebay they also have the savvy to deduce that a genuine deisgner pece of jewellery aint sold that cheap off an Ebay listing.

Yes and if you walk along the beach in a hundred foreign seaside resorts you'll find many people oferring you Rolexs for sale advertised as genuine.
