withdrawing a statement given to the police

my partner attacked me during an arguement last week, he was arrested, not released on bail. He appeared at court a couple of days ago and has been remanded till 6th july, i think he has some sort of outstanding conditions from a previous court case for violence (not against me),i dont intend on taking him back but i really dont want him to go to jail, will withdrawing my statement help his case or could it make it worse? how would i go about withdrawing my statement?

It's for the courts to decide whether or not he goes to jail. He's attacked two people already, who knows ho badly he'll hurt the third. Maybe if he gets banged up for a while he will begin to realise that violence is not acceptable. Do your duty.

Hi I have had the same issuse and you can not withdraw your statement only make a second to say why you would like to withdraw, you can tell the prosecution you do not support the prosecuting of your husband but it is totally down to the CPS as to weather they have enough evidence to continue a prosecution and get a conviction. You can also ask an officer to write a victim statement which the judge will see, how your life has changed and what effect the incident had on you if it goes to court. You may need to hang on to see what he is being charged with if he is and what pleas he will put in as if it goes to a trial the CPS will more than likely call you to give evidence and can use your first statement. Also withdrawing can make his case look bad as they may take it that you are intimidated by him. Good luck.
