I have an Irish Phunt £5 note which is no longer legal tender due to the change to the Euro. I wish to cash it in for the equivalent in Sterling but the banks will not accept it.
Any ideas please.

Send it to an Irish and Irish based, charity in the Republic. They'll find some way to get the benefit of it locally in Ireland. UK banks won't touch it because it's not on their list of currency notes and would charge a lot for cashing such a small sum if it were.

If the Irish economy is as bad as they say, estimated current value is two and a half groats.
Exchange of Irish Pound Notes (and coin) for Euro is the responsibility of the Central Bank of Ireland.

BTW ummmm £5 in Gaelic is 'cúig phunt', as printed on the front of the banknote.
You could possibly try taking it to a UK branch of Bank of Ireland or Allied Irish Banks - they might exchange it for you.
