It is a bit ike "good cop" and "bad cop".
Labour always seem like the "good cop" because they give money away to anyone and everyone without bothering to worry who is going to pay for it.
The Tories are seen as the "bad cop" because they have to come in after a period of Labour mismanagement and try to sort out the mess.
Have a look here at "Winter of discontent" (1978-79) where Labour yet again got the country in a mess. Thatcher and the Tories had to come in and sort out the mess (and get the UK back on their feet again).

No, I think Pete Postlethwaite, one of the all time great actors, and his death was a very sad loss. Tory rule what does that mean, didn't people elect the tory party, or have in the past, they didn't just get in all by themselves, and i have seen enough propaganda labour slanted films to last me a lifetime. Time to move on.

Correction, Thatcher came in & ruined the country by closing the pits, getting steel manufacturing closed down in Sheffield, stopping ship building on the Clyde etc. Need I go on, you Tory lovers are obviously totally blinkered. Ron.

and those industries were heavily unionised, many loss making, like nationalised industries, with little investment, which is what you have to have to keep good businesses going. Our goods were too expensive, with high wages, you can't do that in a highly competitive market. That's how business is done, like it or not.
Also to add< Mrs Thatcher's blue eyed boy is now trying to finish the job she started. NHS, Local government & anything else he can find to put workers out of a job. I can remember 'Great' Britain'.
Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves,Britain's never, never will be slaves. Where is The British Navy now, & can anybody deny that we are now slaves to Europe ? Ron.

we have been slaves to Europe for a long time, and without being rude, which party got Britain into the mess we are in now. You just can't dump everything on the current administration, they are picking up the tab for what went on before, whoever elected Blair didn't get their monies worth, two wars, costing billions. And he made promises he never kept, and the socialist that he is (not) swanned off and left, or was forced out by Gordon Brown, the worse Prime Minister this country has ever had
