last night, i did and thought it was very good, but why didn't they make
it longer, say 6 episodes, as it was obvious from reading the blurb of the
book, they missed out an awful lot.

I found it boring and somewhat pointless. The acting and film photography was excellent. Obviously the book is better.

I like a bit more drama in my dramas.
...but there are dramas where the "action and events" are more important...and there are dramas where "people and relationships" are more important. This was one of the latter. Made a nice change.
I like a bit of both actually, but just found all the lovemaking scenes really boring. I didn't find the characters complex either. I would have liked to have seen more of the character and less of the lovemaking scenes.
..and the reverse chronology made it a bit awkward to follow, at least after a glass or two of vino!
Yes, Mr LL gave up, but he too was bored and on the computer through most of it so didn't see the dates on the screen.

I watched it right through - I didn't give up, but it didn't create any lasting memories.
When the book first came out, I rather hoped that TV would take it up. I feel it deserved more airtime than it has been given, though......the scope of the book seems to be so much greater than one 90 minute episode can fully do justice to.

I still have yet to watch it, though...
