Good Day all!

I have a large handful of 35mm and Medium Format negatives that I would like to crop and print myself. My recollection is there used to be a few shops that had machines that allowed consumers to do this. I'm not referring to the ones you can insert discs into. This is only for actual negatives. Previously I had to first pay for a print, then draw the crop onto it, then have it enlarged and printed. Alternatively, I've been offered to have it all put on a disc, but the quote was outrageous! I' just want to spend part of the day standing there doing it myself. Does anyone know of any of these shops being around anymore? I've looked on the Inet and seen lots of they'll do it , but can't find any DIY anymore. Thanks SO much!

Hello Oiverbotel - have you thought about getting a negative scanner which allows you to scan the negatives on to your computer and you can then crop and print the photos using your existing computer software and printer ?
These devices retail for about £80 or so at places like Maplins .
These scanners work with 35mm colour or B+W negs and with 35mm slides .
I have not seen any which are Medium Format capable .
I'm afraid I don't know if there are any shops which allow you to process in the "old" stlye (enlargers darkroom chemical solutions etc) but best of luck to you .

Thank you Argorstran...I did browse through several of them and was concerned that I'd probably do such a poor job on a non-professional machine that it would be a waste of money. That's why I've been trying to find a place where I can do this and even get a little advice should I need it. I very vaguely recall snappy snaps offering this years ago but it no longer appears on their websites...or at least it's not clear enough to understand whether they do or not.

I asked at Boots today, where they had one of the digital machines. But the chap said no Boots have them and I'd need to find a 'pro' shop in London for any DIY...but when I pressed for a suggestion he said he couldn't think of any off hand...Thank you for your thought...I'll still consider buying one...but crum, they are dear, especially if I only use it for the one occasion and never again!

Happy Holidays!

There are shops which have high quality scanners for negatives, but as these machines cost over £25,000 each they do not let you DIY.
There is one near me in Letchworth Herts. Not cheap though around £1 a scan !
They put the negs onto disk for you, you can then use programs like 'Photo Shop' to manipulate the image.
