It's relative though. Some people pronounce Sarah as SAHrah, others Sair (to rhyme with air) a.

If you click on the pronunciation letters on Wikipedia, it gives you a table of how to pronounce each letter, so you get s-o-r-ee-ch-a (x=ch, which is pronounced with a 'k' sound.)

Not long ago, I saw an Irish stand-up comedian whose first name was Caimh - it's pronounced 'queeve', apparently.

You'll get different answers because it depends where I Ire;land you're from how you would exactly pronounce it- i wqould say it more as

Sur-ai-khaaa- with the stress being on the end and the ai a very quick sound.

I've heard it two ways, Irish mum at school calls her daughter sore-sha and SIL in Dublin has a friend calle sore-ka. Must be a regional pronunciation.

My MIL is Irish, and when we were expecting out third daughter, she came out with a bewlidering variety of Gaelic names which I have never heard of, before or since.

My wife and i both liked Siobahn, but thought about the constant pronunciation questions our daughter would have to live with, so she is Charlotte - and everyone calls her Charlee.

BTW Siobahn is pronounced 'Shiv-awn' if anyone was not sure.

So you didn't settle on Caoimhe then Andy? I once had an Irish Wolfhound called that. In the end , I gave up spelling it out every time I spoke to the vet and told him to put 'Keeva', as it is pronounced, on her records .

i was once told it was zorrika by a girl, but then sorcha corrected her and said that the 'ik' sound was just the irish accent - the roll of the 'rrr' - like an american would also - and it was actually just sorka
