whats with this 'fashion' of wearing a smart jacket with a pair of jeans ? everyone appearing on top gear tonight was dressed this way.it appears to me that only incredibly unfashionable people would do this !

is it just me or is this a big no no !?

For women, the fashion of "one or max 2 items of evening wear with a casual pair of jeans" was really in last year, and so it's still popular now.  And, IMHO, can look very very good indeed.  Or do you mean the male presenters?  I started watching and for some reason switched it off.

Last summer I worked at a cricket benefit evening event at LCCC and a certain England player, let's just call him "Fred", wore a jacket and jeans combo and looked very smart indeed.... until he took the jacket off and tied it round his waist.  Oh the look was lost!! :-p

I seem to remember this look was put into room 101 by Alan Davies.

THere's a crucial difference here though - if it's men or women wearing it.  Women can get away with it.  Men - it's a tough call.  And the jeans and jackets Jeremy wears... well... he's a nice guy and he knows a LOT about cars, but he's no fashion icon now is he?

Are we talking about men or women wearing the combo?

I tought Jack Dee looked good in his.  Jezza looks awful in most things tho.  Did you notice he had a pink version of last weeks shirt on?  Must have got a multi-pack as a gift...LOL!!

Wearing a blazer (or old suit jacket) with a pair of jeans is nothing new, I did it in the late 70's, the 80's and 90's and so did other people.
