He was dreadful on the last show he did, nothing like his earlier voice. I loved his singing in the eighties and had his LP and cassettes. Now, as the OP said he's almost talking his way through it. Didn't I just say that on the Rod Stewart thread?
It`s a rare popular music singer who can reach the high notes if they haven`t been classically trained. There aren`t many of them around (apart from Tom Jones and a couple of others). It`s no surprise that Neil Diamond can`t do it. He`s still good though.
must agree with maggieb and boo, he is absolutely fantastic, and having all his LP,s CD's and seeing him live 3 times, i am still considering getting his latest CD, he will never be over the hill!!!!!!!!!!
Of course he can't sing as well as he did. He must be nearly 70 years old. He's a real star and I love him. It was so nice to see the oldies on the show tonight and it was the best Royal Variety Show I have ever seen.
I saw him live at manchester in about 2002 i think it was, I was standing up applauding like everyone else when he came out and walked through the arena to the stage in his glittery jacket and I couldn;t speak because my jaw just dropped open because, well. here was neil diamond that i had loved since i was at school and i couldn;t believe it, so star struck. waited all those years to see him and he was fantastic
it brought back memories for me Lottie, when One Direction were on at just after 8pm, I remembered my Dad letting my sister stay up late to watch the Beatles on it all those years ago, they were on after 8pm which was soooooo late back then!
