If you like Christie type murder mysteries with glorious English countryside and a bit of humour, this is for you.

Don't know why it hasn't been more widely advertised.

In 1974, Kenneth More starred in a 13-episode Father Brown TV series, each episode adapted from one of Chesterton's short stories. The series, produced by Sir Lew Grade for Associated TeleVision, was shown in the United States as part of PBS's Mystery!. They were released on DVD in the UK in 2003, and in the USA four years later, both versions by Acorn Media UK.

don't watch a deal of daytime tv, why can't they put it on in the evening, there is so much reality show dross, get rid of all that then show this instead..

It's very good to have a new Series to watch and not just the endless re runs of murder she wrote (which I can't stand) and midsummer murders. I have enjoyed both episodes so far.

It's ok but rather straightforward (probably because it has to be all done and dusted inside 50 minutes).

Some of these BBC1 afternoon shows are subsequently shown at a later time of day and are perhaps used as a pilot series to see if they're worth giving a longer run.

i could record it, but quite honestly i would rather didn't have to. Weekend tv is absolutely dire, if one has nothing else to do, or is laid up ill.

Very easy watching with no depth whatsoever, but still thoroughly enjoyable. Life in the 1950's, just very simple.

I have just watched episode 1 and think it quite lovely! Not sure why it's tucked away in the daytime schedules. I really think this could work in an evening slot.
Not that it matters to me....never watch live TV anymore. I think most people record, too.

It didn't seem to have the promotion it deserved (though possibly we all miss the promotions because we don't watch live TV! lol)

It's a bit racier than the original stories, but I'll stick with it to see how it goes (so far only watched first episode)

Thank you for the reminder, hc. And thank you to BBC iplayer because I forgot this was starting and I've had to catch up online. This might not be the sort of thing I would normally have watched, but seeing it previewed in the Radio Times I thought I would give it a go.

Not terribly impressed so far. Really enjoyed Privates last week. Hope there is another week of it soon.

I'm not sure if I'll bother with week 2.
It's a bit like Miss Marple in a cassock, with too many stereotypes of village folk, and they deviate too far from the original stories.
On the other hand, it looks like next week there will be entirely new stories, and they might be an improvement.
