Anyone watching this on ITV now? It's very interesting and it got me thinking. How many people on here holds a Donor Card and if not, why not?

I'm not being judgemental just interested. I have one.

I am watching the programme. I have been on the organ register when a friend of mine had to have a kidney transplant quite a number of years ago now. She is still very well. OH also registered.

I carry my card around in my purse. There has been something in our local paper recently about registering your donor card. I didn't actually realise you had to do that. I thought the card was enough.

I thought that was such a good point made at the end. You would accept an organ from someone else so how can you not be willing to donate yourself?

I'm not sure I'm allowed to be an organ donor now. I got banned from being a blood or bone marrow donor.

I had a card years and years ago and have tried several times tonight to get onto the website but it wont connect....everyone must be trying after watching the programme....brought tears to my eyes

My Dad always said if you were a dustman and in a fatal accident, if there was someone better educated than you, or in a better job then if you and carried a card you would lose out. I'm not saying he was right, just giving his opinion. I would be interested on Sqad's opinion on this.

I don't understand, jeza - was your dad saying that a donor organ wouldn't be found if you were a dustman, if a university professor needed it at the same time? I think not. Hospitals don't need to know your background, they just see a patient with type-matching organs.

I have registered as a donor.

I cannot imagine my profession influencing my suitability to give or receive an organ.

Going back to the 70's boxy. My Dad was very disillusioned with the NHS. So much so that he took early retirement.

I have carried a card for as long as I can remember. OH couldn't be persuaded to carry one...stupid tempting fate argument.
When he suddenly needed a transplant he changed his mind quite quickly and from them did a lot to encourage people to carry cards.
Having said that and though I am grateful for his transplant I don't think you should be allowed onto the transplant list unless you are also willing to donate.

I don't have one (know I should), but they can't have my eyes (I know that when you are dead that's it, but I am keeping my eyes, from my knowledge no one ever died from not having sight).

A couple of years ago a friend of mine had a heart transplant at age 28. I signed up then.

Do you know Sherr....I felt the same about eyes. My first card said...everything but the eyes. Then I worked with a blind girl..thought of the pleasure I get from my eyes..reading, sewing, eyeing up builders etc.. and thought....it's not just about saving life, it's also about giving someone quality of life so the eyes can go.
Get a card....Ma says so. x
