I'm hoping for Tourette's Doctor ....
Interesting, offering a critique on a programme not seen for a quarter of a century.
The one and only time I watched it Tom Baker was the Dr
Maturity and gravitas? Why? You want it to be boring?
No I'd personally like it to be worth watching :) Agree with him as a good choice, not my choice, but a good choice non the less.
I kinda wanted a female Dr Who, just to see how they made it work/or not?
I was interested in that in principle but I couldn't think of a woman I really wanted to play it.
I honestly have never heard of him. I don't watch a lot of TV these days. I thought David Tennant was the best, but I will take a look at the new Doc.
Olivia Coleman and Sheridan Smith were in the betting to get the role, long odds though.
I agree that Dr Who is a male role but maybe .......?

I thought the rules were that Dr Who can only regenerate 11 times?
Do you think if it continues being successful they will find a way of changing the rules? Extra Terrestrial intervention perhaps?
Time Lords can do it twelve times (that would make a good car sticker) so Doctor Fa has one left. It seems The Master found some way around it so no doubt The Doctor could do it too. Capaldi played another part in Doctor Fa or it may have been Torchwood so that is needing explained.
I am very disappointed because I doubt there will be anymore 'thick of it' now and I guess I will have to start watching, what is in effect, a kids programme

Whatever next - that little kid flying around on a broomstick?????
Great to have another Scot - but hope he keeps his accent - haven't watched it since David Tennent was the Doctor. Incidentally the first Dr.Who programme began about an hour after my son was born, and the new fathers on the ward were more interested in the programme than the new babies!!!!

Brilliant LG. We can only dream....!
Not another skinny squitty eyed Doctor Who. They have no gravitas lately. The other doctors from previous years had the look of experience about them. Won't be watching, now they are even wanting him to snog his latest 'assistant'.

@Bibble - thats great. Thats the Dr. I wanna see ;)
Capaldi will be brilliant... absolutely brilliant!!

Tom Baker will always be the Doctor to me, good as Tennant and Ecclestone were. I'm a bit meh about Matt Smith, he's pretty good but a bit too odd, even for the doctor!

ps....and yes I am a Dr Who geek!!
Aw c'mon, did 2 links (one to the Guardian, one to youTube) really need to be removed? The poster of the youTube link gave plenty of warning as to the profanity involved!
Meanwhile, youTube links showing RTA's are not removed, so was a Mod a little over zealous?
Possibly copyright issues on the clips used, rather than the swearing per se

Newsnight were quick off the mark though. They used a bleeped version of that vid for their closing credits sequence, last night. (available on iPlayer, in that case, for a while at least). Even referred to it as a 'mash up'.

Since I'd already seen it, here on AB, the closing credits sequence they did to go with the Osbourne-burger photo still ranks as the funniest, to date.
