best kept secret eh? lol anyway who is he? is he related to the singer?
Ah good. Some gravitas back to the role.
Will be interesting to see how he takes it. Never did get used to Matt Smith, I'm a Tennant-er.

Troughton was my favourite...Roger Delgado as the master ...
he played WHO Doctor in world war z, but i only just recognise him, still won't make me watch dr who, lol
WHO?
It would be highly amusing to see Capaldi channeling Malcolm Tucker whilst playing the role :)
Excellent choice! Very happy and may start watching again.
"Ah good. Some gravitas back to the role."

Agreed. He does anger very well !
Stopped watching when Catherine Tate got involved but I'll watch the 50th anniversary episode and then the Xmas special but I doubt I'll stick with it after that.
Forgive my ignorance. Who is Peter Capaldi? Please don't say the new Doctor.
I can see it now as he's addressing the Daleks:

"Right you, stay the f*** away from my Tardis or I'll rip off your probe and shove it where the sun don't shine, you spotty, oversized excuse for a f***ing pedal bin".

If only Ianucci could become one of the script writers.....
Wonderful news, love Peter Capaldi - may even start watching the programme again for a weekly fix! Scottish too!!
Yes Jeza.
Good choice. Hope he keeps his Scottish accent. Never could understand why Tennant pretended to be English.

I have put this forward as your audition to be on the Dr.Who script writing team :)
I'm VERY pleased. He's one of my favourite British actors. Brilliant news.
Jeza

Peter Capaldi stars as Malcolm Tucker in the BBC comedy, 'The Thick Of It'. He's won awards (BAFTAs) for his portrayal of Tucker, who is like a very swear-y version of Alistair Campbell.

Personally I think he's a fantastic choice because for a while now, the character of the Doctor has veered towards younger actors. I believe Capaldi will bring a sense of maturity and gravitas to the role.

I will certainly be tuning in (for the first time in over 25 years), just to see his interpretation...
