I know that Amy found out Kyle's adoptive parents had died cos Eric & Val saw the death notice in the paper but how did they know who they were?

I thought those type of things were kept secret.

That's what I thought... not sure 'Granny' would be allowed to keep him either. It's a daft story line, not very well thought out (IMO)

Those things are kept secret. Yes Granny would be allowed to keep him. The child is treated exactly as if he had been bore to the parents. In effect when the adoption happens the child is your sole responsibility; social services are not involved. I agree it's an irresponsible story line as it raises hopes for parents who gave up children. it also worries parents who adopted. It should also be noted that very few children are given up in this way. 99% are removed by social services.
