TV "signing"

Last night I taped three progs Law and Order my fav cop show, a documentary, and Jonathan Creek and all were made unwatchable by having a figure on the screen "signing" you know for deaf people.

Anyone know if there is a plan to make all progs like this?

I'm sure not paying this kind of money for sky to watch someone waving their arms about throughout the programme.

and what about deaf people who want to watch?

not every tv has subtitles.

I can see where you are coming from. Im sure it should be possible like subtitles to have the option of having signing, via the red button etc.

Sometimes the signer is quite large on the screen, and is distracting, but I guess that has to be the case otherwise the deaf woudnt be able to understand if the person was shoehorned into a corner of the screen

I dont want to sound unsympathetic towards the deaf but as jackDaniels said surely with todays technology they can make the signer an option.

I understand that there are about 70,000 people in the UK who sign and I would imagine that most of them have sets with subtitles these days, which means in a population of almost 60 million the programmes are being spoiled for something like 99.99%

There has to be some other way, a seperate channel where all the progs are signed perhaps

i hate it too, the hollyoaks repeat on c4 always has it on!

Since it's Sky we're talking about, isn't each programme repeated about fifteen times a week anyway?

You probably chose to tape the programmes during the 'repeated with signing' slot.

But it really is so inconsiderate of these deaf people to want to enjoy these programmes aswell.

I was at my mates at the weekend and we were watching Kerrang (Offspring weekend allegedly) in the middle of the night (Fri./Sat. morning) and they had the signing women in the corner during music videos.  The Green Day one springs to mind, I ask you! signing to a bloody song, did the air guitar and playing drums bit & everything, bizzare

Oh my heart bleeds for those of you who complain. I watch programmes with the signers doing a damn good job so stop moaning and be THANKFULL  that you have your hearing!!!!!!!!!!

jeesh FINA sorry I just though it was weird to sign to music, certainly didnt mean to insult anyone or seem unsympathetic, sorry if you were offended :)
