Everyday when scanning the Sky channels there are endless documentaries about WW1 or WW2 or Hitler related programs every single day. No wonder there is still hatred toward the Germans, even by school children. Not long ago in Devon visiting German school children were being targeted by local kids with a load of anti German/war related bullying.

Of course no one should ever forget the wars but do we really need it thrust down our throats every single day. It really is time to put these wars and all the related programs on the back boiler, maybe then the kids will have the chance to grow up without so much hatred toward the Germans.

It's not thrust down anybody's throats...you have to CHOOSE to watch it.

Yes I agree gingejbee, I wasnt specifically talking about me, but why do we need it constantly on our TV's with so much hatred still hanging around!
It seems to especially affect Asda shoppers
Yes, we do need it, in an attempt to learn from it - war's still with us, our young men and women are still dying.

boxtops, I agree, but not WW1/2, we can move on to current and more recent wars and give the Germans a rest from the hatred. I'm not saying hide it away and pretend it never happened, I just think we are still making too much of it.
I'm surprised because in all my years of growing up I have never seen hatred against the Germans (except perhaps from the older ones who lived through it). Certainly not from children.
Could have summit to do with who "won it"
I also have not seen kids hate Germans either. Maybe the incident referred to were louts looking for any excuse ? I don't think ill feeling is still common. Meanwhile for sure things should be put into the past in due course, but that does not mean forgetting history. I'm just wondering when the last world war is no longer in living memory, whether the poppy day will continue. After all it is the government that should cover the needs of those who gave their all in conflict, not have them rely on charity.

weecalf, My point exactly, that is the kind of comment usually made to stir up trouble by rubbing there noses in it, you think the Germans didnt suffer as we did!
I've never seen any hatred toward Germans. As for those kids, I doubt it would have made any difference where the 'foreign' kids came from. (Wouldn't need to be from abroad even.)
I think children get their attitudes from their parents, I doubt that they watch war documentaries which are usually non-judgemental especially the more recent ones.
I don't see hatred against Germans, there are loads in our town visiting.
war is for some reason glorified .good people lost there lives there were no winners

I'm just amazed that people still want to watch these documentaries.

When Carakeel first came to England from Germany 28 years ago her kids suffered greatly at the hands of the English with all the "Nazi" comments etc, I bet things haven't changed much.

WWI documentaries tend to focus on the evils of war full stop.
I would be very surprised if chiuldren even watched them, never mind derived asny hatred of Germans from them.

I think there are too many programmes about WWII, but not necessarily for that reason. "Anti-German" feeling that I come across tends to come from some anti-EU people (adults) who use the so-called "German threat" as an excuse for their stance.
There are many positive programmes about Germany on TV - quite justifiably.
Question Author
jomifl, I agree that kids don't really watch this stuff but as others have said they get these attitudes from their parent who do watch it.

Clearly things have settled over time and the hatred has calmed, these days I think it is often people being unfriendly or taking the mickey, I accept that "hatred" was probably not the best word to have used.
Never forget history Ratter, it always repeats itself - teach our children about the wars and the toll it took on the nations involved then perhaps they will (when grown) avoid battles by other means.
Question Author
Brenden, that is why I said "Of course no one should ever forget the wars " in the op.

Ok, so I am in the minority.
No, I was a child during WW2 and i don't hate the Germans, in fact one of MY mates and mrs sqad has two German girl friends and i have seen no hatred.

One of my admired characters of WW2 was Adolf Galland who was the youngest General in the Luftwaffe.

I admire their work ethic and their discipline but not their women with hairy armpits.
