...still it's the 'Baftas' (Sunday 18th May) that matter when the actors are judged by theirs peers and not by the fickle public.

I suppose it's a matter of opinion, I forced myself through all of Broadchurch, thought it was massively overhyped. very slow, loads of unexplained bits and a damp squib of an ending.
AND..Downton !
Do you have a professional interest in the show? If not then you are also a member of that fickle public and your opinion carries no more weight than than anyone else. Personally, I can't be bothered with any awards shows.

Perhaps I'm looking more at the acting credentials and performances than at the programme itself.
It's all a matter of taste, I can't stand either of them. My beef is that someone in the media thinks Benedict Cumberbatch? as Sherlock Holmes is lovely and he doesn't float my boat at all - neither does the programme.
That sounded quite snobbish Janzman.
There's nothing wrong with the "credentials" of the Doctor Who cast.
Aside....bibble is your Avatar Bones from Star Trek?

Bibblebub why the hell do you bother to waste time and effort in answering a thread on a subject you neither know nor care anything about.
if one enjoys a particular tv show the only other person whose opinion matters is the commissioning editor who determines how many episodes get made
I'm sure bibble does know about the programmes janzman...he said he wasn't bothered about the award shows...he doesn't care who wins. I'm sure he watches what he likes and doesn't see the need to vote for it
I am not a fan of awards as such and of the three programmes mentioned here I would be hard pushed to pick a favourite as they are all so different.
The hype surrounding Doctor Who is ridiculous. It is a kids’ programme, no longer a particularly good one at that, and one which has long passed its sell-by date. It was good (and perhaps even ground breaking) fifty years ago but began to fall apart after the departure of Tom Baker (in my opinion, the finest incarnation of the Doctor). All credit to the BBC for managing to convince the good public to endow it with almost cult status. But regrettably, like many fings today, it ain’t what it used to be.

On a slightly different tack it intrigues me why Thespians feel the need to award what seems to be an endless succession of statues, glass sculptures medals and all sorts of other things to each other in recognition of their work. No other industry feels such a need.

Imagine the medical profession : "nominations for the best appendicectomy; best supporting theatre sister". Or the plumbing trade: "best soil pipe unblockage; best integrated bidet installation; this years “Lifetime Achievement Award” goes to Bert Pilkinson for his work converting microbore central heating systems to 15mm”

It might catch on.
I don't agree with you about Doctor Who Newjudge. I find it absorbing, exciting and fun.
Each to their own, Mojojojojojojo.

What about my idea to expand the awards business to other trades and professions?
Well I'd be hard pressed to nominate anyone in the NHS that I have had the displeasure of meeting over the past 3 months...which is very sad
and where the hell was " last tango in Halifax" ??
Question Author
It's the nature of the beast. To perform to an audience, to do it well enough for that audience to applaud you and then to be recognised by your peers who are all trying desperately to do exactly the same, it's the ultimate ego trip.
Doctor Who is not exciting to me either. It is slightly (only slightly) better than the first episode with William Hartnell and the cardboard scenery and Daleks with droopy thingies. The programme is held together by string and followed by several hundred people who haven't grown up yet.
Doctor who rocks!......Yes the best Doctor was Tom Baker but i got to give credit to Matt Smith and the team for a great show that both kids and adults love to watch
I agree with Ivor, I was amazed that last Tango in Halifax was not nominated................to me it's been the best series of the year.
