Sorry Anne, got the wrong end of the stick.
anne you can read about the foodbank rules here

> To get a parcel of three days' free food, applicants must first be referred
by a recognised agency: the local jobcentre, for example, the Citizens
Advice Bureau or their GP, which hands out the vouchers. Under the trust's
rules, nobody can have more than three vouchers in a row. The charity says
it wants to provide breathing space for those in acute need, rather than
become a solution to a chronic problem. <

The programme was awful even by Ch5 standards. Nobody, except Peter Stringfellow came out of it with any credit. The rest were all too busy shouting, name calling, being aggressive, sneering, talking over each other and being downright unpleasant and rude. And Matthew Wright was a disgrace. I kept reaching for the remote but couldn't quite bring myself to switch it off as I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing.
I think the least aggressive one was White Dee....

I didn't watch the programme, but Edwina Currie is wrong, you can't just walk into a food bank and get things, it doesn't work like that, and she should do her homework. Benefits for nothing, doesn't work for me, having worked all my life, i can claim but i still feel guilty at times, if the woman was done for theft, that is not a reason for not working, because she has a record, many ex cons get jobs and get on with their lives. It may be difficult because you would have to earn the trust of the business, but that doesn't mean she couldn't do something.
Is there a repeat of this programme at all please?
Would loved to have seen that.
Hasn't she got a child under school age?
Many thanks for the link sandy, ummmm. Will catch up in a mo x
The reason White Dee gave for not working is that she has been diagnosed as bipolar. She said she has one good day and two (or it might have been three) bad days, and is therefore unable to work. Fortunately on the days that Benefits Street was filmed, and for the filming of yesterday's discussion, Channel 5 seem to have caught her on her good days.
She's been diagnosed with serious mental-health problems. Should the TV people have included her in the programme? The ridicule she will subjected to won't do her any good.
Maybe her bad days were edited out of Benefits Street.
And maybe they don't exist.

well. obviously the lady dee, is just pretending to have mental health issues I do wonder how one can tell ? in truth she was the only one who didn't scream abuse at others !!!!!!!!!
//well. obviously the lady dee, is just pretending to have mental health issues I do wonder how one can tell ?//

One can't - can one.
She hardly diagnosed herself. She'd have been seen by a pyschiatrist from the local mental health team.
The programme was a slanging match between Katie Hopkins Annabel Giles and others although Katie is very outspoken and opinionated she did talk sense and spoke the truth which no one wanted to hear! White Dee was quite subdued but couldn't really match the debaters, she was all glammed up new hairstyle etc no one asked where the absent fathers where are and why did the sit about smoking when they have health issues! Next step for Dee Big Brother!
Missed opportunity to discuss these issues
Matthew wright -poor at best and what was that posh model on for?
Added nothing
At least Edwin currie and the horsey woman had something to add whether you agree or not
