Many years ago i remember watching a film and hope someone can help me identify it! 

All i can remember was there was a guy who something happened to and after it did he could see Aliens walking around with normal people, while nobody else could see them. Also when he looked at newspapers and billboard all he could see were alien messages. I think it was set in America.

That'll be John Carpenter's They Live starring Rowdy Roddy Piper - he finds a pair of sunglasses that lets him see aliens and the subliminal advertising they're using to control our minds.

Classic scene- Roddy waks into a bank with a gun "I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick *ss! And I'm all outta bubblegum!!!"
